MARY B. LEISZ (AMERICAN, 1876-1935) FARMYARD SCENE WITH CHICKENS, oil on canvas, a hen feeding her chicks in a verdant setting, signed and dated lower right. Housed in likely original frame. Dated 1925. 15" x 13 1/2" sight, 18 1/4" x 16 1/2" OA.
Provenance: From the estate of Sandra Strohrer, Williamsburg, VA.
Catalogue Note: Born in Reading, PA, Mary B. Leisz began taking painting lessons at the age of 15 under the instruction of fellow Berks Co. artist Christopher High Shearer (American, 1846-1926). She is known for her landscape and genre paintings, working in both oil and watercolor, and is considered one of the most prolific Berks Co. female artists.
