EMANUEL SUTER, ROCKINGHAM CO., SHENANDOAH VALLEY OF VIRGINIA EARTHENWARE / REDWARE FLOWER POT AND SAUCER, unglazed, "6" and "7" within square frame marks, comprising a conical form pot with punched drain hole to base and a saucer with slight tapering form, together by association. Catalogue Note: According to Evans/Suter, flower pots were a huge part of Suter's production at his New Erection site, ranging in size from 1" to 12" in diameter. In March of 1886 he built a small kiln strictly to burn flower pots. On September 3, 1886, he began to fill an order for 20,000 flower pots from a Staunton, VA merchant. Despite the vast numbers of flower pots produced by Suter, very few examples survive to this day.

Saucer undamaged; pot mostly undamaged having some exfoliation to rim and small area retaining old gray paint.
