Alexander Max Koester 1864 Bergneustadt - 1932 Munich 1885 studied art at the Karlsruhe Academy with Carl Hoff and Claus Meyer; earned his money as a student painting portraits; moved to Chiusa in South Tyrol with his family in 1896; there he created many nature paintings and numerous variants of his popular duck pictures; member of the Munich artists' cooperative; received a gold medal for the painting ''Enten'' at the Louisiana Purchase Exposition in St. Louis in 1904, as well as another gold medal from the Prince Regent Luitpold of Bavaria for the painting ''Dem Ufer zu''.
