Description
A set of three George III sterling silver casters, London 1765 by John Delmester
Comprising a sugar caster and two smaller casters, each of inverted baluster form upon a domed foot, gadrooned rims throughout. Each with a pull off domed lid surmounted by wrythen finials. Each lid with drill pierced decoration, each with variance, some holes, some quatrefoils or scrolls, heightened with engraved decoration. Each engraved with a crest of a hand holding a shepherd's crook. The obverse later engraved with a crest of stag, supporting with the dexter foot an escutcheon, with the motto below esse quam videri. Together with a pepper caster, London 1768 by Robert Peaston, of very similar form, engraved with an impaled coat of arms within a foliate C scroll cartouche. Each fully marked underneath, the lids with makers marks and lion passants only. (4)
