the body with the presentation inscription 'To Mr. and Mrs./ John Gilliam Sitwell / on their Wedding Day / 7th June, 1831 / from / Lord Byron/ Capt. R.N.' 
hallmarked for Sterling on body, handle and underside of lid

Note:The inscription indicates that this teapot was presented to John Gilliam Sitwell and his wife Ellen Mary Sitwell (née Tingcombe) in celebration of their wedding which is recorded taking place at St. Alphege, Greenwich. John Sitwell is listed in records as a 'Navy Agent'. The gifter is likely Admiral George Anson Byron, 7th Baron Byron (1789-1868) who was a captain in the Royal Navy at the time of the wedding.
