Description
Eight (8) pieces coin silver flatware attributed to Tennessee makers and/or retailers. 1st item: Soup or punch ladle with beading and tracery design to handle, stamped JP Patent 1855 (likely the Oriental Pattern by John Polhemus) with incuse stamp W.H. CALHOUN for retailer William Henry Calhoun, working Nashville, 1835-d. 1865. 2nd-7th items: Six (6) teaspoons in threaded oval pattern with incuse stamp S. FREEMAN, tentatively attributed to Samuel Freeman of Trenton, Gibson County, 1858-60 and later (ref. Caldwell, Tennessee Silversmiths, p. 87). 8th item: Teaspoon marked D. WILLIAMS in rectangle, mark tentatively attributed to Daniel Williams, working Winchester, Franklin County, c. 1860 (ref. Caldwell, Tennessee Silversmiths, p. 169). Ranging in size from 5 7/8" to 10 3/4" L. Combined weight: 8.695 total troy ounces.
