John Breckinridge Boldly Signed Autograph Request as VP
Single Page LS, 5” x 3.5” tipped into a larger sheet, 8.5" x 5.5", dated January 10, 1860. Signed in full by the Vice President as “John C. Breckinridge”. The signature is dark and bold. The sheet is unevenly trimmed, with minor toning and dealers notes in pencil on verso.
The note reads:
Dear Sir,
In obedience to your request I send you herewith my autograph.
Very respectfully
John C. Breckinridge"
John Cabell Breckinridge (1821-1875) was an American lawyer, politician, and soldier. He represented Kentucky in both houses of Congress and became the 14th and youngest-ever vice president of the United States. Serving from 1857 to 1861, he took office at the age of 36.
