A Worcester mug, circa 1757-58
Of bell shape with a grooved handle, printed in black with 'La Terre' and 'Le Feu' from the 'Chinese Elements' series, both scenes featuring two Chinoiserie figures in garden vignettes, the scenes flanking two small flying insects, 11.5cm high

These prints by Robert Hancock are derived from Boucher's Elements via prints by Pierre Aveline. 'Le Feu' and 'La Terre' were usually paired together on bell-shaped mugs and printed with particular care. The two small insects on the side of this mug are an unusual addition.
