Description
A rare posset or syllabub glass, second quarter 18th century
Of gently flared form with an everted rim, with two trailed loop handles and a serpentine spout to the front, the base moulded with gadroons, on a low circular foot, 10.1cm high
Footnotes:
Provenance
Tim Udall Collection
With Delomosne and Son, 8 October 2011
Patrick and Mavis Walker Collection
Literature
Delomosne and Son, 18th Century Glasses for the Dessert (2011), no.8b
Whilst usually known as posset glasses or pots, it is thought that these may have been intended for syllabub as the glass would have been unlikely to withstand hot posset without cracking, see Ivan Day's paper in Delomosne and Son's 2011 catalogue.
