Robert Lee Eskridge (1891 - 1975) American

Measure 14"in H x 20"in W and 21"in H x 27"in W with frame
Known for: Marine genre, illustrator, mural
Biography: A genre painter, muralist, and illustrator, Robert Eskridge studied at the University of Southern California, the Los Angeles Academy of Fine Art, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Chicago Academy of the Fine Arts. He was also a WPA muralist and spent the years during World War II teaching in Florida and Los Angeles and after that was primarily in Hawaii for long periods of time including teaching at the University of Hawaii. He first arrived in Hawaii in 1932 and did a variety of genre subjects including many scenes of the fishing industry. He was author and illustrator of several books: Mangareva, The Forgotten Islands, South Sea Playmates, and Umi, The Hawaiian Boy Who Became King. His murals are in Honolulu at the Ala Moana Park Sports Pavilion and the Palmer House in Chicago.
