In this nineteenth-century oil painting the painter delights us with a lake landscape tinged with subtly iridescent lights, with groups of ladies enjoying a bath surrounded by leafy trees. The painting is in keeping with the bucolic style of French landscape painting at the turn of the century, although there is also a desire to capture the chromatic ranges of the sunset and the ochre qualities of the spring flora in a realistic manner. The wide panoramic view and the course of the water running into the shore give a naturalistic idea of depth and space.
