**First Time At Auction**
Native American, Southern United States, Mississippian culture, ca. 1360 to 1500 CE. A wonderful pottery jar presenting a bulbous body with a rounded but stable base, and a gently attenuated neck that flares out to a broad rim. The walls are quite thick and robust, slipped in a dark red hue. The Quapaw were Native Americans who lived in four villages along the Mississippi River in what is now Arkansas from 1500 through the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. This is a surprisingly heavy bottomed vessel that may have been for cooking or preparing food. Size: 5" Diameter x 5.5" H (12.7 cm x 14 cm)
