First edition 1826 John James Audubon engraving with hand-coloring, “Bonaparte Fly Catcher, Muscicapa Bonaparth.” Plate 5 from “The Birds of America.“ Engraved by William H. Lizars, who completed only the first ten plates in the volume before printing switched to Robert Havell. Inscribed lower left “Drawn from Nature by J.J. Audubon MWS.” Inscribed lower right, “Engraved by W.H. Lizars, Edin.” With J. Whatman watermark. Plate 20.5” x 15.5”. Sheet 30” x 22”. Overall with frame 34.5” x 26.5”
Condition
Trimmed and laid onto paperboard, some wrinkling to paper, some minute spotting to image, mat burn around edge of plate.
