Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A gorgeous dish of relatively circular form bearing a raised rim and a central kick that protrudes outwards from the center of the basin. The central kick prohibits the dish from sitting perfectly level unassisted, however this was likely by design as it was perhaps meant to rest atop a mount on one's table. Thick layers of brilliant, rainbow-hued iridescence envelop the entire composition and imbues the shallow vessel with an elegant and sophisticated presentation. Repaired with restoration in a few areas. Abrasions, minor pitting, and light encrustations to surfaces. Fantastic iridescence throughout.
