Description
20thc painting by Arrigo Ghedini(Italian/Anerican 1905 to 1997), Forest
Frame: 28.5" x 24.5"
Painting: 19.5" x 15.5"
Arrigo Ghedini
(From the artists website): Arrigo Ghedini was born on September 22, 1905 in Ferrara, Italy, to a prosperous and accomplished family. His father, Annibale Pietro Ghedini (1861-1954), was a neurosurgeon and achieved the rank of General during World War I. His grandfather, Giovanni Ghedini, was a Distiller in Ferrrara.
Like many educated families in Northern Italy during this time, Arrigo was taught German before being taught Italian. He stated it made it more difficult for him to learn English later in life due to the similarities.
Arrigo obtained an Economics degree to appease his fathers wishes, but then set immediately on painting full time.
In 1947 he married Anna Duranti, a painter and actress, in Florence. They remained together for the rest of their lives. According to blogs on the internet, Arrigo sold his paintings at a Boardwalk Art Show in Virginia Beach.
Davids notes: You could certainly classify Ghedinis art as Surreal, there are eyeballs in the trees, ghostly faces in the tree trunks, etc.
