Description
The ancient Italy shown on this map is pre imperial. Prominently shows Gallic areas in the north and Etruscan areas below them. It’s cartouche also hints at a Roman Republic period with what seems like defeated kings siting below title, one seems to have his hands bound behind, while a triumphant bare headed Roman is being crowned with oak wreath by Victory who also blows a trumpet. 1701-1706, ancient geography by Christoph Cellarius, professor of history at the university of Halle. Published in 'Notitia Orbis Antiqui Sivi Geographia Plenior', Leipzig, copperplate engraved, approximately 13x9". Some toning and foxing otherwise in good condition. Authenticity Guaranteed.
