Description
Some great ancient cities are shown in this map that shows Syria and Phoenicia on the left to Mesopotamia to the right. Cities include Antioch, further south are the great Phoenician coastal centers, Ardos, Balbus, Sidon and Tyre. In the center is Palmyra. Based on some of the cities shown this map would show the ancient lands of the greco- Seleucid Empire, it’s possible the king with attendants bowing in the cartouche also alludes to the Seleucid regime. 1701-1706, ancient geography by Christoph Cellarius, professor of history at the university of Halle. Published in "Notitia Orbis Antiqui Sivi Geographia Plenior", Leipzig. Copperplate engraved, approximately 13 x 9". Authenticity Guaranteed.
