William Penn Morgan was born in London and studied in Paris before moving to New York where he intermittently attended the National Academy of Design. He earned a reputation for portrait painting and is now best known for his domestic genre subjects. MEASUREMENTS: 25-1/2" high x 15-1/2" wide, overall 28" high x 15-1/2" wide; frame 5-1/4" wide. CONDITION: Bottom 2-1/2" of painting obscured by frame. Relined. Areas of in-painting to seated child on left, mainly to hat and shoulder. Frame with cracks and areas of loss to gilt.
