Songye Kifwebe Mask, Democratic Republic of the Congo, smaller size, hollowed-out, tapering form, pierced around the edge for attachments, with a square, protruding mouth beneath a triangular nose rising to a high, narrow crest, the wide, slit-like eyes with semi-circle lids, the whole decorated with linear striations filled with white kaolin pigment, the ridgeline, nose, mouth, and eyes in black, with custom wood base, ht. 15, wd. 6 3/4 in.
