Description
A late 19th century Russian apothecary pill or herb crusher mortar and pestle made of cast brass by Kolchugino Partnership. The mortar has marks on the bottom consisting of two headed eagles with Russian inscriptions above it and dates 1882 and 1896 below. Alexander Grigoryevich Kolchugin, 1839 to 1899 was a Russian businessman and merchant. He was a hereditary honorary citizen of Moscow, a member of the Moscow branch of the Trade and Manufactory Council, a holder of the Order of St. Anne of the 2nd degree. He founded the firm for the processing of non-ferrous metals, Association of Brass and Copper-Rolling Plants A. Kolchugin, 1876.
