Description
A tall slender wooden panel of ovoid form, incised on both sides with concentric circular motifs, parallel lines connecting two of these, the reverse with more concentric circles, ochre pigment covering the surface throughout. The Churinga is considered a sacred object among the Aboriginal peoples of Australia. The sculpture measures 30.25 x 3.25 inches. provenance: the Evan Maurer collection ,Ca, USA. Noted scholar and author.
