Description
Native American, North America, Pacific Northwest Coast, ca. mid to late 20th century CE. A great set of 4 tall and finely detailed totem poles, each hand-carved from cedar with fine graining in hues of brown, khaki, marigold, and cream, and each with a set of wings attached to the verso. The first totem pole is unpainted and features a bear, an abstract human, and a thunderbird. Next is a pole with a bear, a raven, a human, and a thunderbird, all decorated with black, red, and blue pigment. Third is a pole with only a bear surmounted by a thunderbird with a signature on the base reading, "PRINCE RUPERT, B.C." The tallest pole features a frog, a raven, a bear, and a thunderbird, all painted in vibrant polychrome pigments. Size of largest: 8.8" W x 12.4" H (22.4 cm x 31.5 cm)

Condition
Each totem pole is loose atop its wooden plinth and has loosening to attached wings. Each totem pole has minor abrasions and nicks to pole subjects and plinths, with light fading to pigment where applicable, otherwise intact and very good. Nice patina and remains of pigment throughout. One plinth is signed, "PRINCE RUPERT, B.C."
