Description
Ancient Near East, Mesopotamia, Sumer, Late Uruk Period, ca. 3300 to 3100 BCE. A lovely stamp seal of tubular form that is hand-carved from translucent, yellow-white stone. The cylindrical seal bears smooth surfaces as well as a biconically drilled suspension hole within the body. Incised around the exterior surfaces are two distinct scenes: the first comprised of 1 man attempting to kill another while being surrounded by petite zoomorphic creatures, and the second being of a man standing next to a highly abstract deer or ibex, perhaps meant to depict a successful hunt. Custom putty impression included. Size: 0.53" W x 0.92" H (1.3 cm x 2.3 cm); 2.5" H (6.4 cm) on included custom stand.
