Description
Moulin Montmartre by Charles Hargens (1893-1997). Watercolor and pencil on paper from 1986 in Paris. Hargens signature C.H. and PARIS on bottom left of front. On verso were portion of foam backing is removed, inscribed by Hargens in ink, Moulin Montmartre, CH, 86, and France. A very unique painting by Hargens as Charles is mainly known for his western illustrations that he painted in Pennsylvania and South Dakota. This 1986 painting depicts a red curtain scene in Paris with Moulin Rouge printed below top red curtain. A piano is in backdrop and in the forefront, there is a female lying on her back slightly hidden behind the right curtain. Painting measured from outer edge of backing on verso is approximately 6 inches (w) by 8 inches (h). Craft frame measures approximately 11 inches (w) by 13 inches (h). Painting in frame under clear cover. Hargens worked for various mainstream publishers doing illustrations for various magazines and books. Hargens work has sold for over $10,000 at auction. Condition
In good studio condition both painting and frame. Backing nice down on verso to expose inscription. Reviewed under UV light and naked eye.
