Description
A RARE CHINESE WOMEN'S SURCOAT, FOURTH RANK, QING DYNASTY. The padded black silk coat with front and back gold thread insignia badge of the fourth civil rank, wild goose. Decorated further with bats and 'Shou' character roundels with blue silk cuffs embroidered with peony sprays in gold thread. 90cm length. 127cm total width from end of each cuff.
Some loose area of gold thread to front rank badge. Fraying along top shoulder and arm section. Slightly fading to front of coat with back still vibrant. Interior in good overall condition.
Provenance: Purchased privately from Valery Garrett, Hong Kong in 1999. With purchase invoice dated 13th May 1999.
