Pre-Columbian, Valley of Mexico, Tlatilco culture, ca. 1200 to 600 BCE; West Mexico, Colima, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE; southern Mexico to Guatemala, Maya, Late Classic Period, ca. 550 to 900 CE. A wonderful gathering of 5 hand-built pottery artifacts from ancient Mesoamerica. First is a Tlatilco torso exhibiting distinct Olmecoid characteristics on the face. Second is a Tlatilco head with slender eyes and floral ear ornaments. Next is a petite Colima head with ovoid eyes, a pinched nose, and a thick cap brim. The largest is a standing Colima figure adorned with elaborate clothing, finery, and an incised cap. Fifth is a Maya maskette, perhaps depicting the rain god Chaac. Size of largest (Colima standing figure): 2.13" W x 4.17" H (5.4 cm x 10.6 cm)

Provenance: private Fayetteville, Arkansas, USA collection; ex-Dr. David Harner collection, Springdale, Arkansas, USA, acquired between the 1950s to 1960s

Largest figure has repairs to proper right arm at shoulder and head at neckline, with small chips and light adhesive residue along break lines. Tlatilco head, Tlatilco torso, and Colima head are all fragments of larger items; Maya maskette has losses along proper left peripheries. All items have minor encrustations and softening to some finer details. Nice earthen deposits throughout.
