Central Asia, India / Pakistan, Indus Valley civilization, Harappa, ca. 3rd millennium BCE. A charmingly shaped ceramic vessel with steep walls, an inwardly-sloping shoulder, and a small round mouth at its center. The surface is decorated with geometric and zoomorphic motifs in strong black outlines, with some visible orange, pale yellow, and blue-green pigment still visible. Size: 6.1" W x 3.35" H (15.5 cm x 8.5 cm)

Small chips from surface, especially on shoulder and rim, but otherwise the form is well preserved. Some motifs are still visible as shown, with encrusted deposits on roughly half of the surface. The underside has an interesting deposition pattern, showing that the piece had another round vessel resting next to it for a long time.
