Description
From a South Carolina estate. signed and dated Mary E Harris March 1860. A very fine quilt. Signed twice on top and bottom in the same style. Hearts and tassels on either side with a pinwheel motif throughout. A very rare dated and full name signed American quilt example. 87" x 89" ********* full family history ******The roots of this family can be traced back to John Harris and Eleanor Reynolds who were married in ireland in 1754 and sailed to America shortly thereafter. This quilt was made by Mary Eliza Quiery Hrris, teh estate owners great, great grandmother. Mary Eliza Quiery born 1836 married Robert Hemphill Harris born 1833 on july 15 1856 in the Steel Creek area of York County SC. They settled at the homeplace of Captain John Harris in the Steele Creek area.
