Description
Large, original Confederate army muster roll for the 7th Louisiana Infantry. This document, which is quite suitable for framing, includes over 50 soldier names, along with a description of their appearance, place of residence, and enlistment details. It also includes a docket on the reverse from an inspection in 1864, where the company’s discipline was noted as “good." The 7th Louisiana fought in the war's Eastern Theater, serving under Stonewall Jackson in Ewell’s Division as part of Hays’s Louisiana Brigade. When the regiment left Louisiana in 1861, it had nearly 1000 men; at Appomattox they surrendered just 42 - none of whom were officers. At Gettysburg, it suffered nearly 30% casualties, most in an assault on Cemetery Hill on the evening of July 2.
The document's paper is in good overall condition, its writing is quite faint but mostly legible.
