Buzz Aldrin Signed Apollo XI Lunar Plaque Ltd. Ed. Replica

ALDRIN, BUZZ. A reproduction of the Apollo XI Lunar Plaque originally left by American astronauts on the surface of the moon after their historic moonwalk. Signed by Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin in black felt tip marker as "Buzz Aldrin" in the lower right corner of the brass plate. The plate is mounted on a beveled mahogany wood plaque measuring 10.5" x 13.25" x .75". At verso of the plaque is a printed copy of a letter of authenticity dated November 9, 1995. This limited edition plaque has been assigned #312 of 750. Tiny ink skips at "B" and "A" of Aldrin's otherwise large bold signature. The plaque has corner bumping and some adhesive residue at verso, else near Fine condition.

The inscription, "Here men from the planet Earth first set foot upon the moon July 1969, A.D. We came in peace for all mankind", appears below a depiction of the two halves of the earth at top of the plaque. Below the message are the facsimile signatures of Neil Armstrong (1930-2012), Michael Collins (b.1930), Buzz Aldrin (b.1930), and 37th U.S. President Richard Nixon (1913-1994).

American astronauts first stepped onto the moon's gray and granular surface on July 21, 1969. While on the moon, the astronauts took photographs, placed a TV camera, collected geological samples, set up seismic and laser experiments, and even received a celebratory phone call from President Nixon. They planted an American flag on the surface and left behind the original plaque; it was slightly smaller, made of stainless steel, and attached to the ladder of the lunar module landing gear strut.
