Description
Ca. 300 BCComprised of hammered bronze, of domed form, surmounted by knopped finial, a raised triangular plate, with inverted rim, the short, flaring neck guard with rounded ends, a moulded spiral motif on each temple. Helmets in Ancient Greece of the Attic type were made to be close-fitted and made to be highly variable, showing a high level of craftsmanship.For similar examples of helmets, see:The Axel Guttmann collection, Christies, Part 1 and 2.Size: L:400mm / W:270mm ; 1.1kgProvenance: Property of a London private collector; formerly in a European collection; acquired from Peter Ing till collection in early 2000s (Vienna).
