Description
Ca. 1400 ADComposed of three iron plates riveted together, this helm enclosed the wearer's head. The vision was provided by a ridged, horizontal sight between the eyes for better protection. The cross-shaped hole close to the bottom edge allowed the helm to be secured to the wearer's belt or body armour by a toggled guard-chain. There are few examples still existing in collections and museums making this great helm helmet a rare and important object. This helmet was possibly crafted at large expense, for someone of importance. This helm is very similar to that worn by King Henry V at the battle of Agincourt currently displayed at Westminster Abbey. For similar see:Deutsches Historisches Museum, Berlin, Germany (Inv.Nr. W 1003).See the Pembridge Helm: National Museum of Scotland: Accession Number A.1905.489.Size: L:190mm / W:265mm ; 930gProvenance: Formerly in European collection; previously in UK collection formed in the 1990s.
