Description
Native American, Southwestern United States, New Mexico, Acoma & Laguna Pueblo tribes, mid to late 20th century CE. A cute collection of 3 hand-built pottery owl and bear figurines made by artisans from Pueblo tribes using traditional methods and patterns. The large owl is slipped in white and outlined with black lines to delineate feathers and yellow eyes and beak. The shorter owl is similar in style, resting on a stable base that is signed by Anita Lowden (1935 to 1975). The bear is stylized with a curved back and thick legs, the surface slipped in white and painted with geometric black and orange linear shapes. The rear and front feet are signed "EJ Cheromiah" and the place and date, "Laguna N.M. 94." Pueblo potters are known for their beautiful and utilitarian pottery and later for their endearing animal and human figurines. Size (bear): 9" L x 2" W x 6" H (22.9 cm x 5.1 cm x 15.2 cm); (Lowden owl): 3.5" Diameter x 4" H (8.9 cm x 10.2 cm)
