Description
A vintage Bavarian Rosenthal glazed and hand painted porcelain figurine of a duck. Naturalistically modeled and beautifully hand painted, designed by Wilhelm Zugel, 1876 to 1950. Mounted on an oval shaped base. Marked with a green ink factory mark: Rosenthal Germany Handgemalt, an impressed stamp, W. Zugel, and bears incised numbers on the base. Circa: 1950s. Rosenthal is a German manufacturer of porcelain products and other household goods. The original firm was founded in 1879 in Selb, Bavaria. Willy Zugel was an animal sculptor, son of the Munich painter Heinrich von Zugel, studied at the Munich Art Academy since 1900, since 1903 autodidact in the field of sculpture, since 1907 member of the Münchner Secession, 1926 appointed as professor of Fine Arts in Munich.
