Description
Ancient Near East, northwestern Iran and southeastern Turkey, Luristan culture, ca. 1000 to 600 BCE; Northern/Central Europe, Celtic culture, ca. 8th to 5th century BCE. A fine set of forged-copper implements from 2 distinct ancient cultures. First is a Luristan spearhead of an elongated, petaloid form with a shallow midrib, sharpened edges that trace down to a rounded tip, and a slender, tapered tang for attachment to a wooden pole. Second is a Celtic sickle bearing a curved blade with a sharpened edge along the interior curve, a thick spine, and a perforated base for binding to a pole. Both pieces are covered in fine layers of green and brown patina. Size (sickle): 8.25" L x 1.3" W (21 cm x 3.3 cm); (spearhead): 8.5" L x 1.25" W (21.6 cm x 3.2 cm)

Provenance: private Lumberton, Texas, USA collection, acquired before 2010

Condition
Sickle has small chips to bottom of base, a small, folded area near base perforation, and light encrustations. Spearhead has very slight bending to overall form and small nicks along blade edges. Both pieces are intact and very good. Great patina throughout.
