Description
Signed bottom right, numbered 73/150A series of 8 silkscreen-lithographs that are signed and numbered by artist Ilya Shenker. The gift was donated by Sandra Genter to the Jerome Robbins Dance Division possibly in 2013.The lithograph depicts a scene from the ballet "The Golden Cockrel". The origin of this ballet is from an Opera written by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov and inspired by Alexander Pushkin's 1834 poem, "The Tale of the Golden Cockerel". The opera was later given to the Bolshoi Theater, months after its premiere in 1909. The Ballet later premiered in London and Paris in 1914 and the Metropolitan Opera in New York in 1918.
