Item Details
Description
This is one of the rare survivors of the secret Bally coin operated roulette game that was never put into production. The game was designed by Doc Kaufman who worked for Bally and was the first game ever designed to use a hopper for the payout. This system would eventually be used in the Bally slot machines and adapted by other manufacturers in their machines as well. Bally used the name Acme Roulette as a working title for the game. Allegedly 100 machines were produced with generic cabinets and playfield glass for testing before mass production. 50 units were to be sent to the Las Vegas casinos and 50 units to other “testers”. It was discovered early on that the machine could be easily beat by a skilled player and the idea was scrapped. The 50 Las Vegas units were destroyed and nobody knows what happened to the other 50. From time to time they turn up but are pretty rare. This one sheds new light on the story. It was sent, in it’s generic cabinet, to a company that builds furniture cabinets with a set of blueprints for the final production cabinet. The company submitted the bid to Bally for production and never heard back from them. They were never told that the project had been scrapped and the machine and blueprints lay forgotten in a corner of the cabinet company warehouse for the next 40 years. The machine is in VG condition, accepts coins, plays and pays. It comes with the blueprints for the cabinet design that was never built. The blueprints carry the Bally logo and design plate and are dated July 01, 1982, so this should clear up the ongoing mystery of Bally’s involvement in the project. Current generic cabinet measures 50" wide, 28" deep, 40" high.
