Description
Waterloo County, Ontario. Pine. A rare survivor Germanic stepback square-nailed blind door cupboard with wide stiles, three lapped drawers to the lower section, and an unusual three-panel configuration on the lapped upper doors. The lower drawers are flush-mounted with beaded frames. All door panels are double-stepped. The cupboard has wide bracket feet and a well-detailed cornice, original iron hinges and wooden knobs. Although the cupboard was altered long ago by the removal of the sides and front of a pie shelf, the backboards have retained their original length. From the pioneer collection of Joseph Bauer (1896-1963). 83.5" x 65.5" x 22.25". From the June and late David Chambers Collection.
Condition
Sides are missing on the pie shelf. Left bracket foot restored. Slight loss to the lower edge of the right bracket foot. White, yellow, and blue overpaint removed.
