Description
(1750 - 1836) 'Madame Mere', mother of Napoleon Bonaparte who shared in his exile to Elba in 1814. Fine content A.L.S. 'Vostra aftisma madre', 2pp. 8vo., Rome, April 30, 1822, to her son JOSEPH BONAPARTE. In part: '...It's been a long time since I have received any letters...I've been sick...I had the consolation of embracing Jerome...Pauline left...for Via Reggio where she intends to stay...Louis leaves tomorrow for Florence and I stay alone in Rome with the Cardinal...' A 1.5 in. stain at top right (does not intrude on letter) and several tears that have been skillfully repaired. Overall, in good condition.
