(1739 - 1812) Vice President of the United States (1805-12) and Continental Congressman who opposed ratification of the Constitution. Fine content A.L.S. as Vice President with integral holograph address leaf also franked, 1p. legal folio, Washington, Apr. 7, 1810, to Mathias B. Tallmadge in New York. In part: '…The Senate have this day concurred in a Resolution sent up by the House of Representatives to adjourn on the 23rd Instant…I shall quit the Chair some Days previous to that Time. I do consider this as the most unprofitable Session I have ever known. We have and shall do little of any Thing of National Importance…' Seal tear from wax seal affects three words, large chips and a short tear into blank area of cover, mounting residue on verso, else very good. Matthias Burnett Tallmadge (1774–1819) was a member of the New York State Assembly and the New York State Senate and a United States District Judge of the United States District Court for the District of New York and the United States District Court for the Northern District of New York.
