Description
This binnacle is an impressive piece of equipment that looks fantastic in any setting. This example features a heavy sold brass base used to secure the instrument to the ships bridge. Above the base is a wood column with nice carved notches throughout. There are two wood doors in this section, one opens. A brass plaque is affixed to the wood column that says: Northern Electric Co Limited: Patt 1960; Binnacle: No 6464; Montreal Canada. Above the wood section is a heavy brass body that contains the compass. The compass was made by Lionel and is a US Navy Mark 2 dated 1942. The compass does not appear to be keeping accurate direction. It does still retain the liquid inside. Both iron correcting spheres are present, the green one does move side to side on the brass base but could be tightened. Overall height is 51 inches with the base measuring approximately 19” wide. Due to the size and weight this will need to be shipped via trucking line or picked up at Nations Attic facility in Wichita, KS.
