Description
A cased tintype photograph of Boston & Maine Railroad locomotive "Passaconway". The image measures about 5 3/4" by 3 1/2". This is steam locomotive "Passaconway" which the Boston & Maine Railroad acquired from the Eastern Railroad in 1884. Passaconway was a wood burner built by the Eastern Railroad in 1878. It was Eastern Railroad #78. It became Boston & Mane Railroad #178 in 1884. It was scrapped in 1909. Both the locomotive name (on the cab) and Boston & Maine lettering are "negative" (backwards). A magnet sticks to the surface of the photograph, therefore, I am assuming it is a tintype. There are some scratches and wear. Steam locomotive tintypes are not common.
