"Goya, Biographical and Critical Study", by Pierre Gassier, translated by James Emmons, published by Skira, NY in 1955, printed in Lausanne, Switzerland, 1st Printing August 15, 1955, the plates were engraved by Guezelle & Renouard, Paris.
Original slipcase [some damages], fine original dust jacket with price un-clipped front flap, hard boards, beige cloth, 6.1/2" x 7.1/4"; 139 pages + colophon; c. 50 attached color plates, very good condition.
Francisco Jose de Goya y Lucientes [1746-1828] was a Spanish romantic painter and printmaker. He is considered the most important Spanish artist of the late 18th and early 19th centuries and throughout his long career was a commentator and chronicler of his era. Immensely successful in his lifetime, Goya is often referred to as both the last of the Old Masters and the first of the moderns. He was also one of the great portraitists of his time.
