Description
20th C. Peruvian Embroidered Carnival Apron with Airplane. South America, Peru, c. 1920 to 1930. Sewn atop a burlap panel, this vestment features a brigade of soldiers, a commander atop a white stallion, a wheeled cannon, an ambulance, an a bi-wing plane set atop a gold backing. Scores of sequins and embroidered flowers give a bright burst of color to the military scene, and a pair of radiating suns adorn the shoulders which flank a circular head opening. Provenance: Artemis Gallery May 24, 2018, Lot 125A. ex-private Hawaii collection. Size: 32'' x 22'', (81 x 56 cm). Property from the Jim and Kit Horne Collection.
