South America, Peru, ca. 1920 to 1930 CE. A lovely textile vest worn during carnival performances. The embroidered decorative elements include floral, avian, and feathery motifs in bright colors spread across a turquoise velvet ground. Sequins, metallic threads, and acrylic blue "gemstones" add shimmering light play across the fabric. Between the embroidered flowers are vibrant parrots and macaws. Once part of the same vest, each half has now been separated. A lovely example that could be mounted and displayed together or separately. Size: 29" W x 28" H (73.7 cm x 71.1 cm).

Condition
Light fraying to interior and peripheral threads, some fading and staining to colored designs, and light losses to corners. Both halves separated.
