Description
Elvis Presley Stage Worn Scarf Worn at Spectrum Philadelphia on May 28, 1977 W/(2) Letters of Provenance - This blue neck scarf was worn by Elvis Presley as he performed at the Spectrum in Philadelphia on May 28, 1977, and was pulled from his neck and tossed into the air for a fan in the audience. Elvis Presley's practice of giving away scarves started in September, 1970 in Phoenix, Arizona. It is said that at that show, Presley gave his scarf to a young fan in the front row, and her elated reaction led to Presley continuing the practice. Tossing scarves to fans in the audience during his live performances in the 1970s became an Elvis trademark. The 1977 tour would be Elvis' last, as he tragically passed away on August 16, 1977. This powder blue scarf comes with a handwritten letter of provenance from a fan who was in attendance that evening and was lucky enough to catch this scarf when Elvis tossed it. The lot will also come with a second letter of provenance from the collector who acquired the scarf from the lucky fan. Please note: The fan mistakenly wrote the date and venue as "Spectrum in Philadelphia Pa. on May 28 76" on the letter of provenance, however the show took place on May 28, 1977. Please see reference photo which pictures Elvis performing at the May 28, 1977 Spectrum Philadelphia show wearing what appears to be this or a similar scarf.
