Native American, Northwestern United States, Alaska, Yupik people, Thule / Pre-Contact Period, ca. 10th to 18th century CE. A beautiful walrus ivory bead or amulet that has been hand carved with 2 perforation and incised linear decoration. The piece has a large central perforation and a small suspension hole near the top, to one side are 3 intentional parallel lines that may be symbolic to the wearer of this piece. The ivory surface is very smooth with a lustrous yellow patina throughout. This piece may have functioned as a pendant or even as a toggle for a parka. Size: 0.8" L x 0.5" W x 1.25" H (2 cm x 1.3 cm x 3.2 cm)
