Description
DESCRIPTION: Andrew Jackson signed ship passport. For the safe passage of the ship Gold Hunter which was carrying 2,081 tons with no guns and navigated with 22 men and commanded by Thomas Brach. Dated June 20, 1832. Signed by President Andrew Jackson and countersigned by William Wood of Massachusetts. Top left corner was removed to invalidate the document when the ship arrived at the Fort of Fall River on June 10, 1833 when the ship changed property hands. No seal. In wood frame. MEASUREMENTS: Overall with frame 18-1/2" high x 14-3/8" wide. 15" high x 11-1/4" wide. CONDITION: Paper folded, creased, and exhibits foxing as expected with age.
