CEntral Asia, Nepal, ca. 19th to early 20th century CE. This is a fine hand-carved plaque made from cow or ungulate bone, with a smooth verso and a raised border surrounding the central dancing figure. The obverse displays a sensual scene of a nude woman upon a lotus flower pedestal, her legs planted and hands on her waist, standing contrapposto as though dancing. She wears only jewelry on her arms, ankles, and a necklace. Her hair is in a topknot updo, and she is surrounded by a pair of aureoles. Size: 3.375" W x 4.625" H (8.6 cm x 11.7 cm)

Provenance: ex-private collection of actor Anthony Quinn and his wife Katherine, Bristol, Rhode Island, USA acquired prior to 2000

Minor abrasions to obverse face, peripheries, and verso, with light softening to some finer details of figure, 1 small perforation to interior section next to figure, and expected ossification to surfaces, otherwise intact and very good. Great preservation to figural details and nice patina.
