VIRGINIA AND NORTH CAROLINA-RETAILED GORHAM "JOSEPHINE" COIN SILVER SERVING UTENSILS, LOT OF THREE, pattern designed by John Gorham in 1855, comprising a crumber/crumb knife with engraved "H" to handle having engraved decoration of two central seaside landscapes flanked by two figures consisting of one holding a rifle and the other with oar in hand, a large sugar sifter or pierced serving spoon with shell bowl and engraved "Kate" to handle, and a cake saw with engraved decoration to blade and "AEM" initials to handle. Each marked "PATENT 1855" and "COIN" to back of handle, crumber with retailer's mark for Mitchell & Tyler of Richmond, VA (active 1845-1866), sifter with retailer's mark for Joseph M. Freeman of Norfolk, VA (active 1828-1871), cake saw with retailer's mark for Brown & Anderson of Wilmington, NC (active 1850-1871). Total weight: 9.075 ozt. Gorham & Co. / Gorham Mfg. Mostly in very good overall condition with some wear, surface scratches, and other imperfections including slight bending, nicks, worn spots to raised and engraved decoration, and/or one or a few minor/small dents; crumber with some more moderate bending notably tip of blade.
